Would you like to be a Honda civic?
I remember
when we sold our family’s red Honda civic.
Loyal, sturdy no AC, hatchback 2 doors.
The civic had driven miles and miles
through feet of Colorado snow.
Through deserts,
Through states,
With my Dad and
By my Dad’s advisor.
No AC.
My Dad used it for 3 years:
in Hot, Humid Houston.
Then,
we traded it.
For a new 4-door, AC containing Mazda.
I cried. The memories. The car. It was gone.
Would you like to be a Mercedes Benz?
When I got married we drove in the Lucky Benz.
Why was it Lucky? I don’t know.
It wasn’t the only family car.
Innovas, vittaras, balenos, and
Benz.
All parked in the same lot.
Mostly the Benz didn’t drive me.
The Benz was lucky until it was not.
Why was it Lucky? I don’t know.
Would you like to be a sports car?
Sports cars - garage bound.
Engines cold. Stationary.
Stroke the sleek exterior:
Race out onto the road.
Did you hear about Charles Leclerc and Alexandra Saint Mieux?
They got married.
What did she wear?
Then there’s Baby:
Baby, Driver
1950s
Classic American
Mixtape playing
Ear buds.
High school sweethearts
Credits roll.
No Debra.
No Baby.
